Is using AI for homework cheating?

It depends on how you use it. Using AI to do your homework for you is cheating in most schools. Using AI to explain a concept, quiz yourself, or check your reasoning after attempting the problem is the same as having a tutor — that's learning. iTutor is designed for the second mode: it teaches Socratically rather than handing you answers.

More detail

The line between cheating and learning is whether you would understand the material if the AI disappeared. Pasting a homework problem and copying the answer fails that test. Working through it with the AI prompting you with sub-questions passes it. iTutor's default mode declines to give direct answers to prompts that look like homework, redirecting you to a Socratic walkthrough. Schools and universities increasingly accept AI-as-tutor; what they ban is AI-as-ghostwriter.
