Pembantu Belajar AI vs ChatGPT: Yang Mana Lebih Baik untuk Pelajar?

iTutor Team 10 Disember 2025

"Why would I pay for an AI study assistant when ChatGPT is right there?" It's a fair question. The answer is that a general-purpose chatbot and a study-focused tutor are genuinely different products — they just happen to share some underlying technology.

What a general chatbot does well

ChatGPT and similar general AI tools are flexible. They'll help you write an email, debug code, plan a trip, and explain photosynthesis in the same session. That flexibility is valuable — but it comes with tradeoffs for students.

Where a dedicated study assistant wins

It remembers your learning. A general chatbot starts fresh most sessions. A study assistant tracks what you've learned, what you've struggled with, and what's due for review. That continuity is the whole point of tutoring.

Curriculum alignment. Study-focused tools are tuned to specific curricula (IB, AP, GCSE, SAT, national standards). They know what a grade-10 Spanish student should be learning — not just general Spanish.

Active recall by default. A good study assistant quizzes you. ChatGPT explains. That difference maps directly to retention. You'll learn more from ten minutes of being quizzed than thirty minutes of being lectured to.

Progress tracking. You can see mastery grow over weeks. Parents and teachers can see it too. ChatGPT has no concept of your past sessions.

Safety for younger students. Kid-focused tutoring platforms are content-filtered and restricted to schoolwork. General chatbots aren't built for children.

Subject specialization. Good tutoring platforms integrate tools — equation renderers, code environments, language speech practice — that general chatbots don't have out of the box.

Where the general chatbot wins

Range. If your needs jump between coursework and everything else in your life, a general AI is genuinely more useful.

Cost, sometimes. Free tiers of general AI are generous. A dedicated platform is an additional subscription.

Creative open-ended work. For essay brainstorming, creative projects, or debugging weird edge cases, general chatbots often feel more flexible.

Who should use what?

If you're a middle or high school student, a dedicated study assistant (like iTutor) is worth it — the curriculum alignment, progress tracking, and safety features matter.

If you're a university student or adult learner, the honest answer is: use both. General AI for broad tasks, a study-focused tool for the subjects you're trying to master.

The bottom line

A general chatbot is a brilliant generalist. A study assistant is a specialist. Neither makes the other obsolete. For serious, sustained learning — the kind that shows up in grades and retention — a specialist tool almost always wins. For one-off tasks, the generalist wins. Use both; just don't confuse them.
